For April I pulled out a big project of the cupboard I keep my yarn in. A project that has been hiding in there for about 1.5 years.
It really has been that long?
It is absolutely beautiful though but it is a sort of a nightmare project when you are as slow a crocheter like me.
Blankets take me about a year.
But here it is: My African Flower Hexagon Blanket (Ravelry entry here and original pattern in Afrikaans here )
As you can see, I have almost completed a third of the blanket before hiding it away. It is a monster project with all the colours.
At first it went pretty quickly as I was crocheting the flowers during my commuting time. But I hated the joining. I absolutely did not like working the acrylic yarn with my Clover crochet hooks. It sqeaked.
I have tested two flowers with my Etimo hook and it is so much better. The yarn glides more easily over the hook.
I am really hopeful that I will complete this blanket during the next month! Fingers crossed.
The big start was on Thursday as I layed out all of the rows up front to make a nice distribution of all the flowers.
I tied per row all the flowers together with a string and bagged them with a piece of paper stating the row number. I think this will help speeding up the project.
This is how it looks right now.
I will keep you updated with this absolutely beautiful blanket!
Lovely blanket!

BeantwoordenVerwijderenJa, iedere keer trap ik erin :) ik weet dat het eindresultaat mooi is, maar de weg er naar toe is soms "verschrikkelijk" ;)
VerwijderenWow!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIt's so beautiful.
Alicia.
Thank you Alicia!
VerwijderenWow! It's gonna be beautiful when it is done. I always start blankets, even for babies, and never finish them as I like quick and easy and lose interest in long term projects. Good luck getting it done. Will be so worth it! Best wishes, Tammy
BeantwoordenVerwijderenYes, exactly! As soon as a new project has lost its shinyness, I quit! I really do hope to finish it in a few weeks...
VerwijderenThe dark contrasting yarn makes the flowers glow. It's a beautiful blanket. I've made two African flowers so far ... :-)
