I am happy to be back again. Life is slowing down a bit, and I can finally say the day that I can wield my crochet hook again and finish some patterns and tutorials are is coming closer and closer. One more day and then it is Summer Vacation!
I missed being able to focus and work on my designs very very much.

Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie

 

Our tiny city garden is full of veggies!

They are tiny as of now, but I do hope to harvest them in a fullgrown size in a few weeks. I harvested my first radish a week ago and a couple of strawberries and raspberries much to the kids and Big Mans delight.

I love my tiny city garden. My little edible garden!

As of now we have a rapid growing pumpkin plant, lots of radish, I had carrots, lots of nastartium and violets, courgette, stalkbean, stringbean, beets, lettuce, figs, raspberry, strawberry, tomatoes, cucumber, patisson and gurkins.

We'll see how it goes with all of these plants!

P.S. I am looking for a recipe to include my stalkbeans. There are only 8 of them and I have zero experience with these kinds of beans... Does anyone know a small dish to incorporate them?

Ons kleine stadstuintje staat vol met kleine groentes!

Zo klein en schattig zijn ze nu, ik hoop dat ik over een paar weekjes volgroeide stuks kan oogsten (zonder dat de slakken ze hebben opgepeuzeld). Vorige week oogstte ik mijn allereerste radijsje (jum) en een paar aarbeien en frambozen waar de kids en Vent heel blij van werden.

Ik houd van mijn kleine tuintje. Het is echt een eetbare tuin geworden!

Op dit moment hebben we een snelgroeiende pompoenplant, aardig wat radijsjes, ik had worteltjes, veel oostindische kers en viooltjes, courgette, tuinboon, snijboon, bietjes, sla, vijgjes, frambozen, aardbeien, tomaten, komkommer, patisson en augurk.

Ik hoop dat alle plantjes het goed gaan doen!

P.s. ik zoek nog een tip om iets lekkers met tuinboon te maken. Het zijn er maar 8 dus het moet iets kleins zijn... Iemand tips?

Circle of Life

 

 A strange feeling crept up on me last evening. During the past three weeks I've encountered almost all stages of life.
My best friend became mom to her first baby.
My hubbys nephew got married.
My best friend lost his father.

Strange how all this is just how life is, although we either do not want to know about it or enjoy a big celebration.
Life is life.

I feel sorrow for my best friend and I hope he will see happiness in life again some time in the future...

Een gek gevoel besloop me gisteravond. De afgelopen drie weken stonden zomaar ineens in het teken van bijna alle levensfasen.

Mijn beste vriendin werd voor het eerst mama.

De neef van de Grote Vent trouwde.

Mijn beste vriend verloor zijn vader.

Het is zo raar dat het allemaal bij het leven hoort, maar dat we liever voor sommige dingen onze ogen willen sluiten en andere dingen juist enorm vieren. Terwijl het gewoon het leven is.

Ik voel verdriet voor mijn beste vriend, en ik hoop dat hij ergens, als de tijd daar is, weer vrolijkheid in het leven ziet..

Friday/Saturday Find

I'm late! I was away from home (at school) from 6 AM until 12 AM. Yup thats right. I had to chaperonne at a school dance in the evening so it was a long long day.

But this gave me a whole lot of time to think up a great theme for this Find.

Fair Isle

an intricate multicoloured pattern knitted with Shetland wool into various garments, such as sweaters

It's a technique that is seen in beautiful sweaters and hats/gloves. It is sooooooooooooo stunning. When you are knitting in the round it is not much of a problem to make these kind of motifs (it involves quite some finger wrestling with different yars which is beyond my abilities) because it is seamless and the stitches are stacked above eachother.
With crochet you have a problem to make this technique work. Only single crochet is capable of creating a dense fabric, but when you are working in the round all the stitches shift each round. Luckily there are a few great designers who puzzled it all out and created beautiful patterns for crocheters to try Fair Isle!

Hello hello my lovelies!
The Sun is out again after two days of nothing but rain, huzzah!
I am counting my days until the start of the summer vacation and I am occupied with the last thing for this schoolyear. I am trying to pick up crocheting but I am a bit out of my groove and my elbow is protesting a bit. I am taking it slow!

De zon is er eindelijk weer na de twee volle dagen regen, hiep hiep hoera!
Ik ben aan het aftellen tot de vakantie en vooral bezig met de laatste dingen afronden voor het afgelopen schooljaar. Ik probeer hier en daar wat te haken maar helaas mijn elleboog is het niet meer gewend ofzo dus ik doe het rustig aan!

Colour love

 

Last Sunday was not a good day. I hit rock bottom that day after days of grading, sorting, reading, mailing on and off with parents and students and in between painting the last room.

It was a bit too much (and that is an understatement).

Plus both kids are in a "I contradict everything mommy/daddy says" phase. No fun.

Today was the deadline for all the grades, and besides having a hissy fit with a few students about not writing their name on the assignment and saving it on someone elses account (and looking funny at me for not knowing who did what of the assignment) it was a day trying to get a bit of a zen feeling.

It is done. Sort of.

Thank God for bright sunny happy colours.

Afgelopen Zondag was echt geen topdag. Ik had een enorme dip na dagen vol met nakijken, sorteren, lezen, heen en weer mailen met leerlingen en ouders en ook nog tussendoor "even" de laatste kamer verven.

Het was een beetje te veel (en dat is een understatement).

Daarnaast hebben beide kids ook nog een "Ik spreek altijd mama of papa tegen" fase. Niet leuk.

Vandaag was de deadline om alle cijfers in te leveren en ook al had ik een "woede-uitbarsting" (professioneel) omdat leerlingen het niet inzagen dat ik niet kan ruiken van wie bepaald werk is als ze hun naam er niet op zetten en het ook nog op iemand anders zijn account opslaan, probeerde ik wat zen momentjes te pakken.

Het is klaar. Ongeveer.

Halleluja voor leuke lieve vrolijke kleurtjes.
