Coffee Ponderings 3/4

Afgelopen week was iedereen ziek geweest hier, alleen de kleine Kathelijne stuiterde overal vrolijk doorheen ondanks een snotneus. Geert die bleef maar doof. Echt doof. Dwars. Boos. Een soort van pain-in-the-ass om het zo maar even te zeggen. Ik was het van het weekend zo zat dat ik alles maar moest blijven herhalen (tot wel 5x toe) en dat hij zo boos om alles werd. 

Man wat was ik blij dat ze weer naar school mochten. Maar gisterochtend wilde hij echt. niet. uit. bed. komen. Huilen huilen. Ik was er klaar mee. Gelukkig offerde de vent zich op en bleef hij thuis bij Geert en zouden ze naar de huisarts gaan om uit te sluiten of er echt niks aan de hand was. Ik was vorige week al met hem geweest vanwege de doofheid maar het advies gekregen om neusspray te gebruiken.

Wat bleek: hij heeft een vette oorontsteking en moest aan de antibiotica. Man wat voel je je dan schuldig! Het arme ventje heeft wel wat te verduren gehad en dan was ik ook alleen maar boos tegen hem aan het doen..... Soms is het maar moeilijk communiceren, en het grootste probleem vind ik dat hij het niet zegt als er iets aan de hand is. Hoe ik dat moet aanpakken is nog steeds uitproberen.

Dus vandaag een uitziekdag, en morgen kijken we weer verder...

Wijze les: kindjes communiceren anders dan volwassenen... signalen oppikken is soms best moeilijk!

During Spring vacation everybody got flu like symptoms but only Kathelijne stayed happy with a snotty nose, and everybody else felt miserable. Geert turned deaf from fluid behind his ear drums. He stayed deaf for days and I went to the GP but returned home with nasal spray and the advice to wait it out. It was a trying time during the vacation because I had to repeat myself every time I was saying something to him. Very annoying after a few days!

He started to become irritated and more angry as the days went by. And I got more irritated too.. I was pretty relieved that everyone got back to normal life on Monday, and that I got a break, and the kids would be going to school. 

But yesterday he woke up crying, not wanting to get up and I really wasn't in the mood for that kind of behaviour! Luckily hubby offered to stay at home with him and have another visit to the GP to rule out any sickness.

Poor dude was having an ear infection. I felt sooo ashamed! He is on antibiotics and slept most of the day yesterday. Today is a PJ day and I hope he will be feeling better soon. 

The thing is, I really want to help him, but he turns his back on us pretty easily, being stubborn and all. He does not say it when something is going on.

And that is hard.

But for now, everyone is more mellow, and everyone will be feeling better soon I hope!

Ik heb ze al een hele tijd niet gezien, maar Marillion was een van de eerste bands waar ik echt verliefd op werd. Zulke mooie progressieve muziek... Dit is een juweeltje!


I haven't seen them in years, but Marillion is one of the first bands I really fell in love with. Such intense progressive music. This is a gem!

It's My Blog Anniversary!

Gisteren spiekte ik eens in al mijn berichten want ik had geen idee meer wanneer ik nou was begonnen. Ik wist wel dat het ergens februari/maart moest zijn. En wat bleek? De officiele verjaardag van mijn blog is al voorbij! Op 12 februari 2012 schreef ik mijn allereerste blog. Met nog nul idee over hoe en wat dit blog me zou brengen en welke weg we zouden inslaan.

Drie jaar oud! Hieperdepiep Hoera!

Nu pas heb ik echt het gevoel welke kant dit blogseltje op gaat, en het gaat lekker. Ik ga gewoon vrolijk verder met posten over mijzelf, mijn haaksels, af en toe wat kooksels, kids en poezen. Alleen de echtgenoot is niet te vinden hier, maar dat vind hij wel best geloof ik.

Ik zeg: Proost! Op naar de volgende 3 jaar en hopelijk nog een heleboel jaren erna!

So I checked out my blog post list yesterday to look for my very first post on here. I always forget when it happened but I knew it had to be in February or March. It happened to be on February 12th when I made my very first blogpost,  whoops! I completely forgot :) I read that post and gosh, I really did not know what to write and what direction this blog would go.

Three years! Blimey! Hip Hip Hooray!

The funny thing is that the direction this blog is going is only a recent thing, I am still tweaking and trying out new stuff. I hope you like it! But I got some great ideas for the future and I have made it very clear for myself want I want to do with my little bloglet. Ofcourse I am going to continue to ramble about life, crochet, some cooking, the kids and the cats you know, my usual stuff. Only my hubby is not prominently here, but he doesn't mind haha.


So let's raise the glass and I say: Cheers! Onto the next 3 years and all the years beyond that!

Busy Fingers Showing Off!! #82

Een hele goedemiddag vanuit een zonnig Zoetermeer! De kids spelen buiten, en ik spring strakjes op de fiets, want het ziet er zo prachtig uit! De voorjaarsvakantie is nu helaas voorbij en ik zit hier alweer met lijstjes voor mijn neus en planningen voor de komende weken op school... Het gewone leven gaat weer beginnen....

Hello my lovely readers from a very Sunny Zoetermeer! The kids are playing outside and I am hopping on my bike in a short while for some errands, it is such great weather outside! Spring Holiday is almost over, so I am sitting here with a table covered in books, notes and preparations for the upcoming weeks for school.... Work life is going to start on Monday!

Friday Find! May the force be with you..

Ik heb een zwak voor nerd-achtige patronen. Iets dat verwijst naar een film, of iets met wiskunde of natuurkunde bijvoorbeeld. Mijn hart maakt dan een sprongetje! Ik denk dat ik een beetje geek aanleg heb dankzij mijn man die een enorme gamer/geek/nerd is. Ik vind het helemaal niet erg :)

Ik vind deze Star Wars deken echt helemaal geweldig!! Dit patroon is net nieuw in de Ravelry database gezet. Je maakt het met telpatronen net zoals bij borduren. De plaatjes en technieken zijn allemaal HIER te vinden!

I have a soft spot for nerdy stuff, and nerdy patterns. Something with a hint to a movie or maths or physics, I love it. It makes my heart skip a beat and put a smile on my face! I think this was triggered by marrying my gamer/geek/nerd husband, but I really do not mind it at all :)

I just saw this Star Wars inspired blanket popping up in the Ravelry database and I love it! You can make this with charts just as you do with cross stitch. All graph charts and techniques are explained HERE.

Pattern: Easy-as-pie Fingerless Mitts / Supermakkelijke vingerloze wanten

 

Voor een beginner is het soms lastig in te schatten of een patroon haalbaar is of niet. Soms kom je er gaandeweg achter of een patroon te moeilijk is! Speciaal voor jullie een patroon dat je echt kunt doen als je net de steken geleerd hebt (beloofd!). Het patroon gebruikt alleen halve vasten, vasten en stokjes.

Nodig: Haaknaald 4 mm en een garen geschikt voor haaknaald 4 (ik gebruikte Royal van de Zeeman)

Haak een ketting van 30 lossen of een ander even aantal lossen

Toer 1: Haak een vaste in de 2e losse vanaf je naald, en in elke losse daarna (dan heb je een oneven aantal vasten)

Toer 2: Haak 1 keerlosse, *vaste in eerste steek, stokje in volgende steek*, herhaal tot de laatste steek, en in de laatste steek van de toer maak je een vaste

Toer 3: Haak 1 keerlosse, vaste in elke vaste, stokje in elk stokje, eindig de toer met een vaste in de laatste vaste.

Herhaal toer 3 tot je een lapje hebt dat met rek (de toeren leg je verticaal en lopen dus van vinger tot pols) helemaal om het breedste gedeelte van je hand past. Ik maakte  21 toeren in totaal (dus toer 2 meegerekend) en ik heb smalle handen en polsen.

Hecht af.

Leg eerste toer en laatste toer op elkaar. Markeer het duimgat en haak met een halve vaste door beide steken van begintoer en eindtoer de delen die dicht moeten vast.

Hecht af en maak een tweede want.

It is sometimes difficult for a beginner to see if a pattern is up your alley or not. As a beginner you do not want to start something too difficult. Just something nice and easy. This one's is easy (promise!)! It only uses single crochet, double crochet and slip stitches.

You'll need: Crochet hook size 4.00 mm or G and a light worsted weight yarn (I used an acrylic yarn)

Make a chain of 30 chain stitches or any even number of chain stitches

Row 1: Make a turning chain, single crochet in the 2nd ch from your hook, and in each ch st (you should have an odd number of single crochets at the end of row 1)

Row2: Turn, chain 1, *single crochet in first stitch, double crochet in next stitch*, repeat between ** until last stitch, single crochet in last stitch

Row 3: Turn, chain 1, * single crochet in each single crochet, double crochet in each double crochet*, repeat for the whole row, single crochet in last stitch.

Repeat row 3 until you have a piece that will fit around the widest part of your hands with the rows vertical and first row against last row. I have very small hands and wrists and I made 21 rows in total (including row 2)

When done, place first row and last row on top of eachother, mark an opening for your thumb. Slip stitch the other stitches shut by slip stitching through both loops of the stitches of first and last row.

Fasten off.

Weave in all ends and start your second mitt.
