Crochet meeting and More!

It is getting colder and more and more grey, did you notice? The cold weather is slowing down home life. More and more we settle on the couch, warming ourselves with cuddles and blankets. The weather is also reflected in the last weeks dished that I made. I dusted off my Crockpot and made some lasagna in it... It tasted okay, but I missed a lot of more flavour. Maybe anyone has a tip how to add more flavour?

On Saturday I want to a crochet meeting in the lovely centre of Den Bosch! Nicollie (you can see me on her pictures!) and Wink organized a get together for about 20 ladies and we had a lovely lunch (lactosefree). Shortly after that everyone was settled and starting to feel more comfortable (I didn't knew anyone!) and the hooks and yarn came out of our bags and the crocheting and nattering started. It was amazing, I had so much fun! It was so nice to finally see someone else crochet and study the way others hold their yarn and hook. Lots of anecdotes were told and lots of advice and other tidbits were exchanged. So so much fun!
I went home with lots of positive energy and lots of goodies!

On Sunday Big Man and Little Man went to a Nasa exhibition and us ladies stayed at home. On a whim I decided we should go out and go to 't  Geertje, a petting zoo with lots and lots of goats. We had a lot of fun. Little Lady played, climbed, nibbled some cheese (they are selling some delicious cheese over there!), fed the goats and just had some fun. The whole place was in Sinterklaas mood, and there even were a few Zwarte Pieten.

The rest of the day was spent on preparations and housecleaning, you know, the usual stuff!

Het weer wordt steeds grijzer en grijzer, heb je het gemerkt? Het koude weer zorgt er hier voor dat het huisleven langzamer wordt, relaxter. We zitten lekker op de bank, vooral de kindjes helemaal tegen je aan en er wordt steeds vaker naar een dekentje gegrepen. Ook het eten dat hier gemaakt wordt neemt meer winterse vormen aan. Ik stofte mijn crockpot af en probeerde er lasagna mee te maken, maar om een of andere reden beviel de smaak niet helemaal. Het smaakte nogal muf.

Op zaterdag begaf ik me naar de trein om naar Den Bosch te gaan voor mijn allereerste haakmeeting en o wat heb ik een lol gehad! Nicollie (ik sta op de foto bij haar blog!) en Wink waren degenen die het georganiseerd hadden en dat hadden ze super gedaan! Na een heerlijke (lactosevrije) lunch kwamen de haaknaalden en projectjes uit allerlei tassen en werd er over en weer gekakeld en gelachen om haakervaringen. Er werd aan garen gevoeld en er werd zelfs haakles gegeven. Het was echt superleuk! Zo enorm leuk om eens iemand anders van dichtbij te zien haken en eens goed te kijken hoeveel verschillende variaties er zijn om garen en naald vast te houden. Heel erg leuk!

Op zondag vertrokken de mannen richting een NASA tentoonstelling in Amsterdam en hadden wij dames het rijk alleen. Ik besloot (omdat het weer er best wel oke uitzag) dat we lekker op de fiets moesten springen en naar 't Geertje moesten gaan (dat is een biologische kinderboerderij hier in de buurt, superleuk voor de kindjes). De Kleine Dame vermaakte zich prima met het speelhooi, de geitjes, konijntjes, eendjes en de speeltuin. We zijn lekker een uurtje er tussen uit geweest.

Daarna begon het gewone huishoudelijke werk en de voorbereidingen voor werk :)

Pattern: Chunky "Knitted" Cowl

Finished measurement

Approximately 10” wide (without border) and 64” in circumference or 32” when laying flat

Materials

Tunisian long needle 11.5 mm/size P

Crochet needle 10 mm

Light worsted weight yarn in two colours (I used Wibra in purple and hot pink), 4 balls
Darning needle

Pattern

Foundation row

Chain 18 (or chain as much to get a width of 10” or a preferred width)

Forward pass: Insert hook into back bump of first stitch, yo, pull up loop, leave loop on hook. Repeat for all chain stitches (19 loops on hook)

Return pass: Ch1, * yo, pull through 2 loops*, repeat between ** until you have one loop left on hook

Tunisian Knit Stitch (TKS)

Forward pass: * Insert hook between both front vertical and back vertical bar from front right to back left, yo, pull up loop*, repeat between ** until the last stitch. For the last stitch, insert hook between left loop plus back bump and most right loop (this means you will have the most left loop and the back bump on the left side of your hook and the most right loop on the right side of you hook), yo, pull up loop.

Return pass: Ch1, *yo, pull through 2 loops*, repeat between ** until you have one loop left on hook.

Repeat the forward pass and return pass until your cowl is 44” long (or prefferred length, 44” is standard for a cowl that is wrapped twice loosely around your neck).

Finishing row

* Insert hook in between both front vertical and back vertical bar from front right to back left, yo, make a slip stitch (1 loop on hook)*, repeat between ** until you have worked your way to the end of the row.

Fasten off.

Take a needle and with a mattress stitch sew both ends of the cowl together.

Attach yarn into the side of a row with your normal crochet hook.

Ch1, single crochet once in each row end along the cowl.

Repeat on the other end.

Enjoy wearing your cowl!

Learn to Crochet Tunisian Style: Tunisian Knit Stitch

The Tunisian Knit Stitch is a little variation on the tunisian simple stitch. Some time in history some designer started playing with both hook and the vertical bars created by the tunisian simple stitch and found out that you can create different stitches with if you insert the hook in different ways. With the tunisian simple stitch we inserted the hook from right to left underneath the front vertical bar. The tunisian knit stitch is created by inserting the hook from front right to back left in between both front vertical bar and back vertical bar. It is only a small difference, but it looks very different to the grid-like fabric made with TSS.

The fabric, although it is much thicker, looks exactly like fabric knitted in stockinette stitch. It has the same v- shaped stitches on the right side of the fabric. It feels very smooth and lush!

How to create the Tunisian Knit Stitch (TKS)

 

 

Start off at the second stitch from the right for a forward pass.

  

Insert your needle in between the front vertical bar and the back vertical bar from front right to back left.

 

 

It will look like this if you either hold your work or lay it down. Finish your stitch by making a yarn over and pull up a loop.

 

Work your way to the end of the forward pass and pay attention to your last stitch. For a TKS forward pass last stitch you need to insert your needle in between the middle loop of the last stitch (made at previous forward pass) and most right loop.

 

It will look like this. Pull up a loop.

Then, chain 1 and make a return pass.

 

This is what it will look like after two rows of TKS. Do you see the v-shapes? It really looks like stockinette!

As a practice pattern I have a "knitted" cowl for you!

Leer Tunisch haken: Rechte Tunische Steek

Bij Tunisch haken kun je veel meer varieren dan alleen maar de Gewone Tunische Steek of de Omgekeerde Tunische Steek. Aangezien het heel veel vergeleken wordt met breien is er kennelijk iemand geweest die op het briljante idee kwam om te proberen steken van het breien ook na te apen! Door je naald op een bepaalde manier tussen de verticale draden te steken verkrijg je dus een hoop variaties op steken, waaronder ook steken die verdacht veel op breiwerk lijken! Hieronder laat ik je de Rechte Tunische Steek zien (RTS) die op de rechte breisteek lijkt.

In de foto hierboven ben ik begonnen met een algemene basistoer en sta ik op het punt om mijn eerste steek te maken. Niet helemaal in de rechterzijde van je werk, maar de echte eerste verticale draden.

 

Die dus, dat is je eerste steek. Nu steek je de naald tussen de voorste en achterste verticale draad van rechts voor naar rechts achter.

 

 

Dat ziet er dan zo uit aan de voorkant van je werk.

  

En nog een beeld van als je hem vast hebt.

Hierna doe je hetzelfde als bij de GTS, je maakt een omslag en haalt een lus op.

Herhaal dit voor alle steken. Let op bij je laatste steek! Ik heb hier de laatste steek platgelegd. Hij bestaat eigenlijk uit drie delen. Links, rechts en het midden. Net als een losse. Nu steek je je naald achter de middelste en meest rechtse in.

 

Dat ziet er dan zo uit.

 

Vervolgens maak je een teruggaande toer. Hier zie je hoe het eruitziet na twee toeren RTS. Zie je de v-tjes? Lijkt net gebreid!
