Het laatste deel vandaag: de appel!
Ik vind hem zo goed gelukt. Het patroon vind je net zoals voorgaande keren onderaan deze post.
Ik hoop dat je deze zomer CAL leuk vond en dat de projectjes goed zijn bevallen! Van de winter weer een andere (door mij ontworpen) CAL!

Vorige week hadden we wortels, zijn ze gelukt? Ik vond wat fouten in het patroon (schrijffouten) dus ik heb hem aangepast voor jullie. HIER vind je de wortel!

My Birthday Girl - Baby Crochet!

Alweer 5 jaar geleden kwam Kathelijne na lang, heel lang wachten (de verloskundige dreigde met inleiden) in ons leven. Op vrijdagochtend, terwijl haar grote broer bij de gastouder was, werd ze thuis in ons bed geboren! De verrassing was groot, want we wisten niet dat ze een meisje was.

Ik haakte me suf tijdens die zwangerschap (dit zijn dus de foto's die ik postte toen ze net af waren!). Ik maakte 3 vestjes (patroontje 1 en patroontje 2 en patroontje 3), slofjes, een broekje en een granny slinger. En de nacht voordat ze zich aankondigde probeerde ik al puffend nog wat aan een granny deken te haken. Onder het mom van "hersenloos patroon zal vast wel helpen met afleiden". De witte streep was de laatste waar ik mee bezig was en het duurde nog anderhalf jaar voordat dit dekentje eindelijk af was. Het was ook 1 van de eerste gehaakte dingen die ik hier liet zien.

En nu is ze alweer 5. Een grote kleuter eigenlijk. Zo pienter, bijdehand en slim is ze. Echt een topdame. Ik maakte voor de juffen en meesters bekertjes met chocolademelk en thee en een paar oreo koekjes. Voor de kinderen in haar klas kocht ik potloden bij de Action, gekleurde snoepveters bij de Xenos en kersjes. Met zijn drietjes hebben we gisteren de traktaties in elkaar gedraaid!

Ik denk dat ze een superdag heeft gehad:)

Oh my. Time has flown. Has it been 5 years already since Kathelijne came into our lives? Sheesh! She was born after waiting an eternity (my midwife already spoke of inducing labour) at home in our bed. The surprise was real as we didn't know she was a girl!

I hooked up a storm during that pregnancy. I made three cardigans (pattern one, two and three), booties,  pants and a granny bunting. And while I was trying to relax through the contractions I tried to crochet a few rows of a granny blanket. The white stripe is the one I tried to make, but couldn't as I was blown away by the contractions. The blanket was finished one and a half years later and was one of the first crochet projects I showed on the blog!

Today she is 5 years old. A big kindergarten girl. She's smart, witty and very very bright. 
I made cups for all the teachers with chocolatemilk, tea, and some Oreos. For the kids I made pencils with candy ties and a small cherry candy. The three of us, Geert, Kathelijne and me, had really fun putting it all together.

I hope she has a great day today :) Our little birthday girl.

Bug infestation!

Afgelopen vrijdag haalde ik een ziekig meisje op bij de BSO en vandaag is eindelijk de eerste dag dat ze weer echt wat eet en happy is. Wat kunnen ze toch ziek zijn van een virusje (denk ik?). Zo warm en lamlendig was ze. Zo zielig! Dat was beestje nummer 1, en hopelijk is hij niet overgesprongen op Geert, of de Man of mij...

Gelukkig is ze aan het opknappen en staan de babbels weer aan want vandaag begon ze gelukkig weer met eten. Vanmiddag kan ze gelukkig meehelpen met de kerstboom optuigen!

Afgelopen weekend haakte ik de laatste toeren van de MCAL en zweefde mijn hoofd alweer naar volgende projectjes.... De test is in volle gang en ik geloof dat het goed gaat (jeej!).

Dus ik zocht naar garens voor het volgende projectje en sorteerde weer de losse bolletjes. Tot ik op een bolletje Scheepjeswol een beestje zag lopen........ Ik denk dat iedere wolliefhebber dan even een hartstilstand krijgt...Neeeeee!

Ik heb hem geplet (vandaar alleen een foto van het pantser van een vervelling) maar ik geloof dat het een tapijtkever is.. Leeft op donkere plekjes van textiel. Hij vindt van alles lekker: wol, katoen, rayon. Ik kon geen gaten ontwaren of andere beestjes maar alles in die mand gaat subiet de vriezer in!! Alles op de zolder heb ik nu uitgeschud maar meer kan ik niet vinden. Flink stofzuigen en in de gaten houden. Ik baal enorm want hoe is dit beestje binnengekomen? Zat hij al in die mand (die is van stof van de Xenos)? En als er echt nog een "haard" is hoe kan ik die het makkelijkst vinden?

Ik houd het in de gaten en ga straks flink alles doorzoeken... Ook mijn shawls... (o nee!!)...

P.S. Maandag moest ik thuisblijven bij Kathelijne en probeerde ik alvast een plannetje uit voor 2016. Ik kom met een nieuwsbrief! Last Friday I picked up a kinda sick little girl at the after school care.... She was not in  great mood and really didn't want to eat dinner. But on Sunday it got worse. She was really warm, coughing and had no appetite at all. Poor thing. I think she got down with a flu bug. That was the first bug to arrive in this house.....


She's fine today and babbling a lot! I am happy she is on the mend so that we can decorate the Christmas tree together this afternoon.

Since I have made the last rows of the MCAL last weekend my mind was wandering on and off to my endless list of new projects. O how my fingers are itching! So I rummaged through my yarn stash and picked the yarns for a new very cute design (watch and see!). But while I was searching I was pulling balls from another spot in the attic and it had a BUG walking on top of it..... My heart jumped. Not with delight but with an "o no!" feeling...

I think I splattered (yes I did that immediately after taking a good look at the critter) a carpet bug larvae. The second bug in our house....

Are there any more?  I really don't know. I pulled everything apart but I am cautious about bugs so I've put everything from that bin into the freezer. The Net suggests to keep it in the freezer for a week, thaw it, and then put it in the freezer for another week. I cannot seem to find any more bugs so keep the fingers crossed for me please!!

Frobel kids

Is creativiteit erfelijk?

Geen idee, ik hoop een beetje van wel. Dan denk ik dat ze wat van mij hebben meegekregen hihi.

Die kotertjes van ons hebben buien waarbij ze de ene tekening na de ander maken. De een nog abstracter (dat je uitleg nodig hebt van wat er is geschilderd) tot superduidelijk met harkhandpoppetjes en huizen.

Kathelijne is het meest van frutselen. Geen kleurplaat of stickervel is veilig. En dan zit ze met uitgestoken tong supernetjes binnen de lijntjes te kleuren.

Geert is meer van het schrijven en de vaak abstracte tekeningen.

Dit weekend waren ze aan het rommelen tussen mijn handwerkspullen en toen vonden ze de clover pompom makers. Toen MOESTEN er natuurlijk een lading "pompoentjes" gemaakt worden!

Sint had dat natuurlijk gehoord en zorgde ervoor dat er een pakketje op de mat lag met heerlijk knutselspul. 
Vanochtend was het hierdoor een heerlijke creatieve explosie van papier, verf, kwasten en stempels in de huiskamer! Geert vertelde dat hij de stempels altijd al had willen hebben en "Sinterklaas heeft me gehoord dat ik dat zei!"

Ze zijn dan zo lekker aan het keutelen, heerlijk!

Maar, zou het erfelijk zijn? Creativiteit? Ik weet dat aan mijn vaderskant er veel tekentalent is, mijn moeder werd pas later crea bea. Bij mijn man zit wel wat handwerktalent, maar hijzelf weer niet.

Of is het hoe je er mee opgegroeid bent? Misschien allebei?

Is creativity heriditary? Can we pass it along to our kids?

I haven't got a clue, but a bit of me hopes that it is passed along in our genes and that they've got it from me.

Those kids love to draw, glue, cut and sticker anything they can get their hands on. You know, there are weeks when there are two to three drawings made in a single day!

Kathelijne loves to colour and being four years old she is pretty good at colouring inside the lines, or make art with lots of (pink) stickers.

Geert likes to write notes and draw broomstick handed people and houses and rollercoasters.

Last weekend they were rummaging through my stuff and found the Clover pompom makers and off they went, producing pompom after pompom. So much fun.

Sint Nicholas heard it of course and deliverd a tiny package with a few drawing templates and stamps! Geert told me he "always wanted those and Sinterklaas has heard me!". 

I love it when they are sitting at the table, painting or something else, and listen to their discussions.

But I really wonder. Is it genetics? I know in my family there are a few drawing talents such as my grandpa and aunt. and I know my MIL used to crochet and knit and her mother too. My mother became very creative when we were tweens/teens. My hubby is totally not into drawing or painting. 

Do you need to grow up with someone creative to be it yourself? Of is it a combination of nature AND nurture?

Halloween!

Ik ben op sommige vlakken niet zo heel goed in plannen. En sommige zaken zijn met koters een beetje lastig in te plannen. Afgelopen week  moest ik dus twee uitdagingen combineren....

Woensdag was voor beide kids de Halloween speurtocht/disco, en ik had in de herfstvakantie beloofd kostuums te maken. Ik wilde het heel simpel houden, maar de dagen VLOGEN voorbij.

Dus op de dag zelf had ik nog niks.

Gelukkig kwam ook mijn schoonmoeder dus nam ik mezelf voor om vooral te blijven ademen en wat niet ging ging niet. Ik turbonaaide met de naaimachine en lockte een ongelofelijke hoeveelheid thule tot ruches.

Maar.... Het is gelukt! Je moet je wel voorstellen dat het laatste kwartier nie-mand met met me mocht praten en eten koken had ik ook al opgegeven. Kathelijne was blij met haar nieuwe tutu (niet alles zat vast aan het elastiek, maar goed) voor onder jurkjes (ze wilde niet volledig als heks, maar als glitterheks) en de jongen heeft een supersimpel spook kostuum wat wel goed draagbaar is. Ik haalde mijn inspiratie hier voor een spook kostuum.

Ik moet wel zeggen dat ik echt NET op tijd klaar was. Wat een stress. Kathelijne heeft de tutu maar liefst 3 minuten aangehad (zat niet lekker zei ze, aargh!!) maar Geert heeft lekker lopen spoken!

Volgend jaar iets rustiger aan? ;)

I know I am not a hero when it comes to planning. And some things are just almost impossible to plan when you have small people running around. These two things combined are a huge challenge for me, I hope it will get better once they are bigger.

So last wednesday both kids had a Halloween Party and a thriller walk through the neighbourhood. I promised to make them both a costume, I really wanted to do this, but you know, the days flew by in the Autumn break.

So, wednesday came around, and I had NOTHING. Just the fabrics.

Thankfully my MIL came over so she watched the kids and I powersewed my way through a gazillion ruffles and a ghost costume.

But I did it. Bear with me, no-one could talk to me the last fifteen minutes and I ditched cooking dinner that evening but I made it! Kathelijne received a tutu with most of the waistline attached to the elastic waistband and Geert pulled a complete ghost costume over his head!

Hubby slashed some glitter on Kathelijnes face and went along with her to school (they had an earlier time slot) and I painted Geerts face.

Gosh, I barely made it. What a stress. Kathelijne actually wanted to get rid of the tutu after three minutes, complaining it hurt, but Geert had lots of fun chasing his classmates boo-ing all the way!

I definately will do something easier next year ;)

How to make your kids grow slower

Weet iemand dat? Hoe je kinderen tegenhoudt in van die groeispurten?
Vast niet!
Man wat groeien ze hard. Moesten we voor de zomer allerlei kleren kopen voor allebei in een nieuwe maat, was het afgelopen weekend tijd om in te slaan voor de herfst en de winter. 
Lange broeken waren te strak of de gaten bij de knieën waren te groot. Ondergoed bij Kathelijne was verwassen en lubberde. En Geert had in 1 dag tijd twee keer zijn grote teen door een sok gestoken. Het was dus hoog tijd!
Manlief en ik lieten de kids los in de H&M en zowaar, zonder mokken werd er gepast en uitgezocht. 

Met een enorme stapel gingen we naar de pashokjes en terwijl manlief het passen coördineerde, hield ik de stapel "goedgekeurd"  van " terughangen" gescheiden. Het ging gelukkig allemaal super, en de kindjes waren goed bezig tijdens het passen. Ik kan me nog middagen heugen dat het een heel ander tafereel was....

Allebei zijn ze een aantal broeken, truitjes, jurkjes, leggings, sokken etc rijker.

Diezelfde dag heb ik alles gewassen, opgevouwen en in hun kledingkast gelegd. Bij zowel Geert als Kathelijne werd de ruimte die ik had gemaakt door oude kleren weg te leggen weer in gebruik genomen met superleuke nieuwe kleren.

Nu nog de schoenen in de gaten houden en moet Geert alleen nog zijn oude winterjas passen. Kathelijne deed het van de week al en oeps, die mouwen die zaten toch echt te hoog.....

Ik voorzie nog een shop tripje!

Hebben meer mama's de verplichte winteraanschaf al gedaan? En wat zijn jullie favoriete winkels? 
Ik ben heel erg van de Hema en de H&M, maar ik loop ook gerust de Zeeman of de Wibra in.

Does anyone have the magic cure for those rapidly extending limbs?
I don't think so!
They are growing sooooo fast. Just before the summer started we had to buy heaps of clothing in a new size to accomodate the warm weather and now it was time to get rid of all the winter clothes that were either to small or too worn out. Pants were either too tight or had holes that were too big. Underwear started to get worn out. And Geert poked two times with a toe through a sock on ONE day. Time to get lots of new winter clothes.

Hubby and I teamed up and went on a shopping trip at our local H&M. Fortunately the kids were in a good mood and helped out picking their new clothes.

Beforehand we prepared them for the whole fitting process and hubby got the task to get them to fit and I managed the "approved" pil and the "discard" pile.

We went out with pants, sweaters, leggings, dresses, socks and some underwear. Phew.

I managed the washing/folding/putting away process that day and filled the room I created after putting the old clothes away.

Lots of happy prints and fresh new colours!

Right now we have to keep track of their shoes and their winter coat. Kathelijne has already tried her old one and boy, those sleeves were somewhere in between her wrists and her elbows. Whoops.

I foresee a little leftover shopping trip!

Texel...

 

Wat was Texel toch fijn deze zomer.... 

Ik keek de foto's vluchtig door en deze geven toch echt wel het Texel gevoel. 

We grappen wel eens dat we zouden willen verhuizen daar dit eiland maar serieus, wat is het daar mooi.

Heerlijke fietstochten gehad, lekker naar het strand en de vuurtoren, duinen en het bos. 

Ondanks dat de kindjes niet echt meewerkten hebben we van de natuur genoten!

I how I adore this Dutch island.

I browsed through my vacation pictures and I think these capture my feelings the most.

Hubby and I joke sometimes that we want to move to Texel permanently and yes, we really consider it. Maybe one day?

We had lovely bike trips this summer and enjoyed the beautiful beach, the famous light house, dunes and the woods.

Even though the kids weren't particularly cooperative during our vacation we enjoyed all nature had to offer!

Coffee Ponderings 3/4

Afgelopen week was iedereen ziek geweest hier, alleen de kleine Kathelijne stuiterde overal vrolijk doorheen ondanks een snotneus. Geert die bleef maar doof. Echt doof. Dwars. Boos. Een soort van pain-in-the-ass om het zo maar even te zeggen. Ik was het van het weekend zo zat dat ik alles maar moest blijven herhalen (tot wel 5x toe) en dat hij zo boos om alles werd. 

Man wat was ik blij dat ze weer naar school mochten. Maar gisterochtend wilde hij echt. niet. uit. bed. komen. Huilen huilen. Ik was er klaar mee. Gelukkig offerde de vent zich op en bleef hij thuis bij Geert en zouden ze naar de huisarts gaan om uit te sluiten of er echt niks aan de hand was. Ik was vorige week al met hem geweest vanwege de doofheid maar het advies gekregen om neusspray te gebruiken.

Wat bleek: hij heeft een vette oorontsteking en moest aan de antibiotica. Man wat voel je je dan schuldig! Het arme ventje heeft wel wat te verduren gehad en dan was ik ook alleen maar boos tegen hem aan het doen..... Soms is het maar moeilijk communiceren, en het grootste probleem vind ik dat hij het niet zegt als er iets aan de hand is. Hoe ik dat moet aanpakken is nog steeds uitproberen.

Dus vandaag een uitziekdag, en morgen kijken we weer verder...

Wijze les: kindjes communiceren anders dan volwassenen... signalen oppikken is soms best moeilijk!

During Spring vacation everybody got flu like symptoms but only Kathelijne stayed happy with a snotty nose, and everybody else felt miserable. Geert turned deaf from fluid behind his ear drums. He stayed deaf for days and I went to the GP but returned home with nasal spray and the advice to wait it out. It was a trying time during the vacation because I had to repeat myself every time I was saying something to him. Very annoying after a few days!

He started to become irritated and more angry as the days went by. And I got more irritated too.. I was pretty relieved that everyone got back to normal life on Monday, and that I got a break, and the kids would be going to school. 

But yesterday he woke up crying, not wanting to get up and I really wasn't in the mood for that kind of behaviour! Luckily hubby offered to stay at home with him and have another visit to the GP to rule out any sickness.

Poor dude was having an ear infection. I felt sooo ashamed! He is on antibiotics and slept most of the day yesterday. Today is a PJ day and I hope he will be feeling better soon. 

The thing is, I really want to help him, but he turns his back on us pretty easily, being stubborn and all. He does not say it when something is going on.

And that is hard.

But for now, everyone is more mellow, and everyone will be feeling better soon I hope!

Birthday Girl!

De kleine meid,  mijn jongste, is 4 jaar! Waar zijn de jaren naar toe gevlogen?

O wat is ze blij dat ze nu ein-de-lijk volledig naar school mag. Gisteren zijn beide kids heel druk bezig geweest met cakejes versieren.

Maar vandaag is ze echt echt 4. Ze heeft vlindervleugels, een verkleed-tutu, een barnsteenkettinkje en een deken (gemaakt door mij!).

Vandaag geniet ze van een hele speciale dag. Supermeid.

Morgen laat ik je zien hoe je ook zo'n deken kunt maken, ik denk dat iedereen die een naaimachine heeft dit wel kan freubelen!

My little girl, my youngest, turned 4 today. Where did the time go? All those years went by in high speed. She is so so happy that she can go to school now. Yesterday the kids were very happy to help me out decorating all the cakes for her birthday party at school.

But today she is finally finally 4. She got carnaval clothes, an amber necklace and a quilt (made by me!).

Today she is enjoying a very day. Supergirl.

Tomorrow I will show you how to create the same quilt I made for Kathelijne. I think everyone with a sewing machine can make this!

A New Phase

Vanochtend bracht ik Katheline voor het eerst echt weg. Dus niet 1 kindje afleverenb bij een juf, maar 2! Twee schoolgaande kinderen, waar is de tijd gebleven? Hoe lang hebben we afgeteld? Eindelijk mag zij ook naar school. Hoe lang ze daar wel niet op heeft moeten wachten, een eeuwigheid in haar ogen! Ze was er zo aan toe, het is ongelofelijk. Ze heeft al zo veel opgepikt van Geert dat wij grappen dat ze gewoon twee jaar lekker gaat spelen bij de kleuters omdat ze al zo veel weet :)

Voor mij betekent het dat ik nu op de woensdagochtend helemaal alleen ben. Jeetje. Alleen boodschappen doen. Dat is gek! Er werd aan mij gevraagd "En? Hoe voel jij je?" Eigenlijk wel een soort van opluchting, of is dat heel raar? Ik kan me nu op andere dingen storten en er bijvoorbeeld voor zorgen dat het meeste in huis/aan school gedaan is als ze van school komen. Of dat ik nu meer tijd besteed aan het afmaken van patronen/tutorials/haakwerkjes/tekeningen. Ik heb zoveel plannen! Ik vind het eigenlijk wel lekker.

Mama in haar nopjes, dochter in haar nopjes. Win-win situatie toch?

Fijne woensdag!

This morning I did not deliver one kid to school, but two. Wow. Where did the time go? We were counting down, but the time went by amazingly fast. For her it was like waiting for eternity, but now the time has come; she can go to school too! It is a running gag now that she will only have to play for the upcoming 2 years since she picked up so many things from her brother. She already knows how to count to 20, knows her colours (even salmon pink) etc. She is SO bright. But she will have fun fun fun I think.

So right now I am sitting home alone. I did the groceries on my own, already sorted out laundry and did some schoolwork. Wow.

One mother on the school playground asked "And how do you feel about it?" Well, sort of relieved. She was really happy to go, and I have a bit more time to do other stuff. Such as working on patterns/tutorials/crochet/drawings. I can have the most urgent things done before they come home. I think it is a win-win situation! Kathelijne is happy to spread her wings and I am happy to have some spare time!

Skill level: Advanced beginner

Abbreviations

Ch: chain (yoh, pull through)

Sl st: slip stitch (insert hook in stitch, yoh and pull through stitch and loop on hook)

Sc: single crochet (insert hook in stitch, yoh, pull through stitch (two loops on hook), yoh and pull through both loops)

Hdc: Yarn over, insert hook in stitch, yarn over and pull up loop (three loops on hook), yarn over  and draw through all loops on hook

Dc: double crochet (yoh, insert hook in stitch, yoh, pull through stitch, *yoh, pull through two loops* two times)

Materials

Rowan cotton dk  in assorted colours

Crochet hook  4 mm/G

Written instructions

Ch3, sl st to close ring

Round 1: Ch1 (does not count as a stitch), sc 6 times into ring. Sl st to 1st sc to close round (6 sc). Do not turn.

Round 2: Ch1, sc twice in each st, sl st to first sc to close round (12 sc)

Fasten off colour, attach new colour in a random spot.

After each following round, fasten off and attach new colour in a random spot. You will have rounds in one colour.

Round 3: Ch1, *sc twice in first st, sc once into next st *, repeat between ** five more times, sl st to first sc to close round (18 sc)

Round 4: Ch1, *sc twice in first st, sc once into next two st*, repeat between ** five more times, sl st to first sc to close round (24 sc)

Round 5: Ch1, *sc twice in first st, sc once in next three st*, repeat between ** five more times, sl st to first sc to close round (30 sc)

Round 6: Ch1, *sc twice in first st, sc once in next four st*, repeat between ** five more times, sl st to first sc to close round (36 sc)

Round 7: Ch1, *sc twice in first st, sc once in next five st*, repeat between ** five more times, sl st to first sc to close round (42 sc)

Round 8: Ch1, *sc twice in first st, sc once in next six st*, repeat between ** five more times, sl st to first sc to close round (48 sc)

Round 9: Ch1, sc twice in first st, sc once in next seven st*, repeat between ** five more times, sl st to first sc to close round (54 sc)

Round 10: Ch1, sc twice in first st, sc once in next eight st*, repeat between ** five more times, sl st to first sc to close round (60 sc)

Round 11: Ch1, sc twice in first st, sc once in next nine st*, repeat between ** five more times, sl st to first sc to close round (66 sc)

Fasten off. Make another circle

Place two circles wrong sides together and attach the same colour as used for last round by pulling the strand of yarn through both circles in a random stitch.

Start round 12 but stop when you are two-thirds done. Start stuffing a pantyhose, put in a rattle, insert pantyhose (toes first) into opening of circles and stuff until firm. Tie off pantyhose, cut off excess fabric and continue with round 12.

Round 12: Ch1, sc twice in first st, sc once in next ten st*, repeat between ** five more times, sl st to first sc to close round (72 sc)

Round 13 (Edge): *Sl st to next st, (hdc, dc, hdc) into next st, sl st in next st*, repeat between **until you reached your starting point, sl st to first sl st, fasten off.

Could you help me? I lost my daughter...

My heart stopped. I searched frantically for her. Everywhere there were kids running and screaming but I could not find a familiar t shirt or face.

A feeling of panic crept up and I felt a clenching in my neck.

I could not find my daughter!

We went to an indoor playground this morning and I packed a lot of grading work, some crochet work and something to read. And I let them run wild. She was already testing the boundaries by trying to go to the big kids playground. I let her, although she is only 3.5 years old.

And while I was waiting for the lunch I found her in the small kids playground and told her to stay there so I could find her when our lunch was ready.  She didn't. After half an hour of frantic searches  (inlcuding having her called over the intercom) she walked out of a nearby room as if nothing had happened! 

My first reaction was relief, my second was anger! I felt bad after I had spoken to her, telling her I was very worried and trying to keep back my tears. Maybe I overreacted but I think this is one of the biggest fears for parents: losing track of your kid...

I felt so guilty. I should be more careful, checking on her more often. On the other hand, she may be very little, but a bit of freedom is very good for her. 

And now she is painting and being the most adorable kid in the world...

Mijn hart stopte. Ik zocht naarstig naar een bekend shirtje, haar haren en haar gezicht. Overal renden kinderen al klauterend en schreeuwend rond.

Ik voelde langzaam paniek opkomen en een gevoel alsof mijn keel werd dichtgeknepen...

Ik kon haar nergens vinden!

We gingen naar een binnenspeeltuin omdat het enorm regende. Ik had nakijkwerk, haakwerk, wat te lezen ingepakt met het idee om even daar te kunnen knallen qua werk en dat de kids helemaal los konden gaan. Ze was me al aan het testen omdat ze eigenlijk met haar grote broer in het speelding voor 5+ wilde en een paar rondjes samen mocht wel. Ze is klein maar met haar 3.5 jaar geen teer dingetje.

En terwijl ik aan het wachten was op de lunch vond ik haar in de kleine speeltuin en vroeg ik haar om daar te blijven zodat ik haar makkelijk terug kon vinden. Kennelijk was die boodschap niet overgekomen want toen het eten klaar was kon ik haar niet vinden... Een half uur veel rondlopen, roepen, Geert in de grote speeltuin laten klimmen om te zoeken en zelfs haar laten omroepen over de intercom.. Ik liep terug naar de tafel en daar was ze zomaar! Het bleek dat ze in een aparte ruimte was waar we eigenlijk nog nooit geweest waren.

Mijn eerste reactie was er een van opluchting, en daarna werd ik boos. Dat verdient natuurlijk geen schoonheidsprijs maar ik had toch echt wat met haar afgesproken. Ik probeerde te kalmeren, tegen de tranen vechtend, want ik denk dat het echt wel een van de ergste dingen is die een ouder kan overkomen: je kind uit het oog verliezen en kwijtraken..

Ik voelde me wel schuldig, ik had vaker een rondje moeten lopen, haar in het vizier houden. Maar goed, het is ook wel een heel zelfstandig meisje, en een beetje vrijheid kan ze ook wel aan.

En nu? Nu zit ze te schilderen en is ze het schattigste meisje ooit..

Time flies!

When I started this blog Geert was only starting to attend Kindergarten and Kathelijne was just a toddler. Life was hectic and the days were very very full with taking care of the kids, home and work. I was a lot in survival mode.

The funny thing I just can't remember exactly how these days felt as life is now so much different!

Both kids sleep all night (yay!), they have a few friends in the neighbourhood and play a lot outside. As in hours. I love it that they are both playful, openhearted and social! Geert is now a real schoolkid and is learning to read. Kathelijne is in her last year of pre-K and counts the days until she goes to the same school as Geert for Kindergarten.

Two years ago they were complete admirers of their mommy and daddy. Now they are both strongheaded that they say "No!" and "I want to decide" haha!

The whole kid experience is one of ups and downs, that is one thing I definately learned over the years, but I wouldn't want to miss them.

Boy. Time flies.

Toen ik deze blog startte was Geert net begonnen in de kleuterklas en was Kathelijne net aan een peuter. Het leven was hectisch en de dagen waren volgestouwd met zorgen voor de kids, het huis en werk. Ik was toen heel veel aan het overleven.

Het grappige is dat ik me nu (gelukkig) niet meer zo voor de geest kan halen hoe deze dagen voelden, want het is nu zo anders!

Beide kinderen slapen de hele nacht (yay!), ze hebben vriendjes hier in de buurt en spelen heel veel buiten. Als in uren. Ik vind het zo mooi om te zien dat ze speels, open en sociaal zijn. Geert is nu begonnen in groep 3 en begint al echt te lezen. Kathelijne is in haar laatste maanden peuterspeelzaal en ze telt al af tot ze naar dezelfde school gaat als Geert voor de kleuterklas.

Twee jaar geleden waren wij nog heel erg hip als mama en papa. Nu zijn ze allebei lekker koppig en zeggen ze "Nee!" of "Ik wil de baas zijn!"

Het hele kindergebeuren is er eentje van ups en downs, dat is wel iets dat ik geleerd heb de afgelopen jaren, maar ik zou het voor geen goud willen missen.

Man. Wat gaat het hard, de tijd.
