Ooo All the Summer Yarns....

Het was gezellig vandaag! Even piepte er ik een uurtje tussenuit om op bezoek te gaan bij de "Garen Proeverij" van mijn wolwinkel The Knitwitch. Lekker voelen aan de nieuwe zomergarens! De afgelopen weken waren de eigenaren druk bezig met uitpakken en terwijl ik "maar" 1 week niet was geweest waren er nog meer lekkere bolletjes bijgekomen! 
Als je in deze winkel binnenkomt waan je je in een snoepwinkel, zo vol ligt het! Al het moois om even te bepotelen en te genieten van de hoeveelheid kleur. Zalig!
En natuurlijk een bakkie doen en bijkletsen over wolletjes, haken, workshops en Ravelry. Zo leuk. En ach, ik mag mezelf haakverslaafd noemen, dus ik kwam niet zonder lege handen thuis..... Ik nam een paar bolletjes Scheepjes Larra mee in heerlijke lente tinten!

I had fun today! This morning I peeped out of the house for an hour or so to visit my LYS The Knitwitch for a sort of Beaujolais primeur party, but instead of sipping wine we got the chance to test/feel/ooh and aaah about the new summer yarns. It was lovely!
I knew they were unpacking loads and loads of yarn the last few weeks, but in the one (1!) week I didn't stop by lots of new balls were put onto shelves!
Really, if you walk into this little shop you envision yourself in a gigantuous candy store... All the prettiness, softness and all the colours, I love it!
I had a cuppa coffee, met new people, chatted about yarns and Ravelry and well, resistance is futile, I succumbed and bought a few balls of Scheepjes Larra in Spring colours!

Ik hoop dat jullie een fijne zaterdag hebben! Ik heb zojuist bijna 12 (!) uur geslapen, kennelijk had ik het nodig! Nu behoorlijk uitgerust. Fijn!

I hope you all are going to have a great Saturday! I just slept for almost 12 (!) hours so apparently I really needed that! I feel quite awake right now. Yay!

Lotte started the CAL 2015 and after 10 weeks it is already a huge square! I love the colour combinations!

Friday Find! Summer Sprigs Shawl

Nu de lente er weer aan komt wordt het shawltjes tijd! Lekker nog even een warme nek, maar niet meer zo'n enorme dikke sjaal die strak om je nek zit. Grappig hoe een paar letters veranderen van winter sjaal naar shawl het woord meteen zo luxe kan laten klinken!
Ik houd daar zo van, lekker nog even iets dat warmte geeft, maar heerlijk licht is.

Dit is een gratis patroon voor een driehoeksshawl, gemaakt met kantgaren! Het fijne van kantgaren is dat het in zo'n bol verkocht wordt dat je met 1 bol van 1000 meter gewoon zo'n shawl kan maken. Fijn is dat! En het is zooooooo mooi om te zien!

Spring is coming and I feel it is time to plunder my shawl collection and put away all of my scarfs. The mornings are too cold now unfortunately to completely rely on shawls, but it is getting warmer! So if you are looking for a lightweight shawl for this Spring to crochet, look no further! Buy one ball of laceweight yarn and be amazed at the yardage on one of those balls! Most lace shawls ask for 1 ball. Just 1 ball. 1000 meters of yarn on 1 ball. Amazing right?

This is a free pattern and it is so utterly gorgeous. Perfect for those chilly mornings.

Tutorial: Extended Crochet Stitches/Verlengde haaksteken

Het is donderdag dus tijd voor een nieuwe tutorial! Vandaag staan de verlengde haaksteken in de spotlight. Deze arme steken moesten veel te lang wachten omdat er andere tutorials voor piepten. Maar vandaag is het zo ver!

Deze steken heb ik voor zo ver ik gezien heb, nog niet eerder in Nederlandse patronen gezien (verlengde haaksteek levert maar 165 resultaten op in Google! en dan zijn het nog niet eens tutorials!), maar ze zijn wel heel erg leuk om te doen! Je gebruikt ze vooral als je wel wat hogere toeren wilt hebben, maar niet wilt dat er veel ruimte/gaten tussen de steken zit.

Hoe maak je verlengde haaksteken?

Het principe voor de steken is eigenlijk hetzelfde: je geeft ze net wat meer lengte door een extra losse te maken voordat je de steek zelf maakt.

Bijvoorbeeld een verlengde vaste:

Stap 1: Maak een vaste tot de laatste stap (2 lussen op je naald)
Stap 2: Maak een omslag en haal alleen door de eerste lus (2 lussen op je naald)
Stap 3: Maak nu je steek af zoals je gewend bent, omslag en door beide lussen (1 lus op je naald)

Nu heb je onder je steek een extra losse die net iets meer hoogte geeft aan je steek.
Dat extra stapje, alleen door de eerste lus halen, is wat je bij alle steken kunt doen om van de steek een verlengde steek te maken.

Voor zover ik het kan vinden geldt bij het gebruik van verlengde steken nog steeds hetzelfde aantal keerlossen als dat je zou gebruiken voor gewone haaksteken.

In de video laat ik je zien hoe je een verlengde vaste, een verlengd half stokje en een verlengd stokje maakt!

It's Thursday! Time for a new crochet tutorial! Today I would like to show you how to do the extended crochet stitches, a bit of an unusual technique to lengthen crochet stitches. They are nog commonly used, but sometimes used to get more height on rows, but to avoid "gaps" between stitches.

How to make extended stitches?

The basic principle of extending a stitch is for all crochet stitches the same. You add a little chain stitch to each stitch so it gets taller.

Let's have a look at the extended single crochet

Step 1: Make your single crochet until the last step (2 loops on hook)
Step 2: Yarn over hook, pull through the first loop on your hook only (2 loops on hook)
Step 3: Finish your stitch like you would normally do, yarn over hook and pull through 2 loops (1 loop left on hook).

So in step 2 you make an extra chain stitch. This step can be used with all stitches!

In the video I will show you how to do the extended single crochet, the extended half double crochet and the extended double crochet.

As far as I could find you can use the same amount of turning chains for crochet stitches for extended stitches. For example, ch2 for half double crochet can also be used for an extended half double crochet.

Coffee Ponderings 11/3: Being Human

 

Er zijn van die dagen dat je denkt "mag het alsjeblieft over zijn?". Een buh dag. Ik zit mezelf vandaag in de weg, en ik weet dat ik degene ben die het kan veranderen, maar het geeft een knauw. Een deuk in je zelfvertrouwen, maar ik hoop dat ik vanmiddag weer opkrabbel en er voor ga. Iedereen heeft wel eens zo'n dag toch? Het liefst heb ik alles pais en vree, maar ja, mensen zitten niet zo in elkaar. Botsingen met jezelf of een ander is nou eenmaal menselijk. Niet leuk, maar het hoort er bij! Lijkt misschien allemaal een beetje cryptisch, maar ach ik moest even een eitje kwijt! Maar laten we er wel om blijven lachen :)

I have been having one of those days that you hope that will go away sooner or later. A typical "blurgh" day. I am making it harder for myself than necessary, but you know, it is a bit of a struggle when your self-confidence has had a bump and you need to get up and get going even though you are struggling mentally. I think everyone has one of those days right? I am a "can't we be friends" person, but humans are not built like that for the full 100%. You collide sometimes with another person! I know I am a bit vague, but I needed to vent. I am just going to sip my coffee, and ponder the above meme, and try to have a good day!
